|PACA Show Results In a repeat of 2011, Here & There Livestock once again claimed the PACA Grand Champion Bull honor with “Smith Canyon Lucky 7”.
Robert & Ruth Coffelt took home to Missouri the Reserve Champion Bull in “Coffelt Bull 819”.
New NACA member (and 1st time exhibitor) David Rose of Paradise, Texas went home with Grand Champion Female: “American Cow 065”
and also from Texas was Reserve Champion Female: “Becks Lass C96”, owned by Russell Barham of Madisonville.
In performance cattle, Smith Canyon Ranch of Dayton Wyo received Grand Champion Roping Animal with yearling steer “Smith Canyon Mouse“, while
Sunnybrook Ranch from South Dakota was awarded Reserve Champion Roping Animal honors with “Sunnybrook Cow 191”.
Capping off the major awards was the PACA Premier Breeder trophy, given to the regional member with the highest number of placing points throughout the show. For 2012, the trophy was given to the original:
“Puckwana Flash” – Tucker Ashley of Diamond A Cattle Co., Puckwana S.D.
In roping action, Marvin Knutson (roping for Cates Ranch) and the PACAs youngest breeder, Trase Johnson (of Gillette) conquered the Breeders Roping among the 15 breeders represented.
The Members ropings filled the remainder of Saturday before the banquet, with the exception of the now annual Poker Run. Everyone walked through the cattle pens gathering cards and checking out all of the class placement signs.
Theron Kalasinsky had the high hand & won an embroidered PACA briefcase (now his school “backpack”) and Amy Thrush won a sweatshirt after carefully studying each pen sign to find the 1 that was different than the rest. When the roping commenced with the Round Robin, Marvin struck again with 1st Place Header and Joey Cash was 1st Place Heeler.
Amy Thrush continued her lucky day by placing as 2nd Place Header in the Round Robin, as well as Champion Ladies Header for the weekend.
Trink Morss of Dayton,Wyo joined Amy as the Champion Ladies Heeler.
Joey Cash switched ends to place 1st Header in the Drawpot and Trase Johnson returned as 1st Heeler in the Draw roping. Fast time winners of the day were Dillon Matthews (header) and Brandt Ross (heeler).
The Awards Banquet
After some downtime to relax & clean up, the crew reconvened at the Cam-Plex for the Awards Banquet. As always, Kathleen Reynolds and her crew provided a top notch prime rib dinner with all the trimmings. In addition to all the ribbons, cash awards and buckles after supper, we also gave out a few special items that have become part of the PACA evening.
Russell Barham received a $50 gift card to spend on fuel (or ?) as our furthest traveled exhibitor – over 1100 miles!
The 50/50 raffle winner pocketed $103 and the “Guess the Baby” winner was announced & awarded – Marvin was a gracious “victim” this year.
The PACA Auction then followed to much success, with many great items donated. When the dust settled, $3100 had been raised for the Assn. through the generosity of all. At the end of the evening, the lucky winning name in the 30th Anniversary NACA Saddle raffle was drawn. Ginny Cates took the commemorative saddle home to New Mexico.
It is always rewarding for the PACA to host a show in Gillette that draws so many great folks from across the country.
Close to sixty people from the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Missouri, Texas, Oregon, Colorado and New Mexico made the trip to spend the weekend with us. We are so grateful for each & every one of those participants. Also on our list of Thank You’s is a big one to each of our wonderful sponsors & donors – both from within the NACA membership and regional businesses that helped make this a great show. Without everyone’s hard work and support, these shows would not be possible.
