2014 Eastern Corriente Association 10th Annual Show & Roping
The Eastern Corriente Association celebrated our 10th annual show and roping on November 6th, 7th and 8th in Meridian, MS at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center. We had a total of 97 head of animals entered in the show and between the conformation, performance and all-around classes, we had 200 class entries. Cattle were exhibited by 23 different exhibitors from Mississippi, Texas and Oklahoma.
The show began with the ECA crew tagging in all of the entries Thursday evening November 5th. As the cattle were unloaded and tagged in, they were put into their assigned pens and bedded down for the night. After the check-in was finished, nearly all of the exhibitors gathered up at one of the local steak houses and ate a good meal.
Friday morning began with the performance / roping classes. After the cattle were wrapped, judge Calvin Schwartz began the difficult task of placing the roping heifer and the roping bull classes. With the caliber of ropers which were hired especially to rope the performance classes, the 52 head were roped twice and only 3 head were missed that needed to be roped for a third time. Frank Graves (multiple time NFR qualifier), Marcus Theriot (2014 NHSRA all-around cowboy and 2013 NHSRA champion calf roper) and Chase Graves (2013 NJHRA champion team roper) were some of the ropers, just to name a few.

After the conclusion of the conformation classes, the ECA served the exhibitors a “Southern Style BBQ” and held their membership meeting. Douglas Dale was re-elected as president, E.W. Goodwin was also re-elected as vice president, Shyann Odom as secretary and Tommy Jordan as Treasurer. The Eastern Corriente Assn. will host the 2015 National Show for the North American Corriente Association the first week of November.
On Saturday, the final day of the show, the ECA had their membership roping, which is open to the public with the purchase of a one-day membership permit. The day started with a #12 slide followed by a #10. Combined the two ropings had nearly 300 teams. The cattle were supplied by several of the ECA breeders and the ropers that attend this roping every year say “They look forward to this roping”.
The awards dinner was the “BIG FINALE” for the show. After everybody dusted off from the roping and put on their good clothes, we sat down to a steak dinner. Then it was time for the hardware to be handed out to the winners. Trophy Hyo Silver buckles and ribbons were given to our class winners. It was really good to see a couple of first-time exhibitors win buckles.
Thanks to all the members of the ECA, our show secretary, Patty Dale and Dr. David Newell for making the 2014 ECA Show and Roping a HUGE success!
